Scopus
Scopus is an abstract and citation database of peer-reviewed literature and web sources with tools to track, analyze, and visualize research. Scopus provides access to a broad portfolio of peer-reviewed content from around the world, including records from MEDLINE and EMBASE databases, among others. Scopus categorizes content under four broad subject areas: Physical Sciences, Health Sciences, Social Sciences, and Life Sciences. You can search for articles, conference proceedings, trade publications, and book chapters. Scopus also allows you to find author information, such as the H-index and lists of publications, and offers impact metrics for journal titles such as SNIP, SJR, and CiteScore. Additionally, Scopus allows citation searches, journal selection for publication, collaboration identification, and managing research impact with your ORCID ID. Citation alerts can also be set up.
ResearchGate
ResearchGate is a social networking site that connects researchers globally, allowing them to share publications and information. With over 20 million researchers from diverse sectors and over 190 countries, ResearchGate fosters collaboration. It enables researchers to showcase their work, publications, professional expertise, institutions, contributions, and the questions they’ve answered on the platform.
Google Scholar
Google Scholar is a search engine that provides links to full-text articles from the University Library System subscriptions or articles freely available by the publisher. It also includes content from academic publishers, professional societies, preprint repositories, and scholarly articles posted on the web. Scholar offers citations along with abstracts of the article if it is protected by copyright.
Open Researcher and Contributor Identifier (ORCID)
ORCID is a service that helps researchers maintain their scholarly identity. It prevents name confusion due to similar or identical names, spelling differences, or name changes over time. ORCID assigns unique, persistent identifiers to researchers, allowing them to distinguish themselves from others. It helps track scholarly works, affiliations, and funding, and ensures that the researcher’s record is up to date. The ORCID ID is a 16-digit number that serves as a unique identifier.
Mendeley
Mendeley is a free web-based reference manager that also functions offline. It allows researchers to save, organize, and manage references, and integrates with word processing software to format citations and bibliographies. Mendeley also enables sharing of references and attaching or linking PDFs to citation records.
